Join Phil Evans & IB Leaders Across the State
March 2nd (10:00 - 1:00) - North Hills MS (Bloomfield)
The IB advantage: Leading sustained school improvement is a leadership convening for Michigan principals and district leaders focused on how the International Baccalaureate can function as a coherent educational system (not just a programme) to support long-term school improvement. Through practical provocations, short case vignettes, and facilitated peer dialogue, participants will explore how the IB system can help schools move beyond fragmented initiatives toward shared purpose, aligned practice, and stronger learning cultures. Designed as a leader-to-leader conversation, this session invites school and district leaders to make sense of the IB advantage in their own contexts, connect with colleagues facing similar challenges, and leave with clear and practical insights to support sustained, coherent improvement.
Phil Evans is a career educator who first learned about the IB when to moved to the United States from Australia, to teach IB English in the Diploma Programme, in 2008. He has worked in both public and private schools as a classroom teacher and administrator. Phil joined the IB organization in 2016, consulting with schools in the US and Canada as they prepared to adopt new IB programmes, and for the past 5 years he has helped schools around the world to move beyond implementing programmes to become the flourishing IB World Schools they want to be. In partnership with schools, he has designed and operationalized new services, resources, and support schools need to do this work. Phil's greatest hope is "to be proactive in bringing the community together to learn from each other, and for the IB to have a greater impact in the schools already authorized. He shares the belief that all students should have access to high-quality education and when we engage in transformative work collectively, that is made possible.
